KaikuSDR

The first start

KaikuSDR is not yet signed with Apple's or Microsoft's certificates. Your computer treats the download as unknown, and the first start takes a few more clicks.

These are the clicks. Updates from inside the app are not affected.

macOS

  1. Open the disk image and drag KaikuSDR to Applications, as with any app.
  2. Open KaikuSDR. macOS says "KaikuSDR" Not Opened: Apple could not verify "KaikuSDR" is free of malware, and offers to move it to the bin. Choose Done, not the bin.
  3. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. It says "KaikuSDR" was blocked to protect your Mac. Press Open Anyway, then Open Anyway again, and give your password or Touch ID.
  4. Done. It is asked once. From then on the app opens normally, updates included.

On macOS 13 and earlier: right-click the app in Applications and choose Open, then Open again.

Windows

  1. Open KaikuSDR-win-Setup.exe. Windows SmartScreen says Windows protected your PC, with only a Don't run button.
  2. Press More info. The publisher is shown as Unknown publisher.
  3. Press Run anyway.
  4. Done. The app installs into your user folder, no administrator needed, and starts.

Why

Both warnings mean one thing only: the app has not been signed with a certificate. A certificate costs a yearly fee, from Apple and from Microsoft. We will add them when the product has earned them.

Everything KaikuSDR does stays on your computer. It has no account and sends no statistics. A problem report goes to the developer only when you press Send. Privacy.
