Legal
In plain words first. The terms follow. Nothing here is hidden in the app, either.
Licence terms
- What you get. The free version of KaikuSDR may be used by anyone, for personal use, without a time limit. A Full licence is a text issued to a person for one purchase. It allows that person to use the full version on the computers they use. A business buys one licence per user.
- Versions. A Full licence covers every version of KaikuSDR released up to and including the month in which the year after the purchase ends. Those versions may be used for as long as you like. A later version is not included. The app never installs one by itself. Another year may be bought at any time.
- Refunds. Within 14 days of buying Full, for any reason. Refunds are handled by our payment provider. A refunded licence is no longer valid and must not be used.
- Lawful use. Laws on receiving, recording and sharing radio communications differ between countries. You are responsible for making sure your use of KaikuSDR complies with the laws that apply where you use it.
- No warranty; use at your own risk. KaikuSDR is provided as is, without any warranty. You use it at your own risk. We work hard on it and fix what we can. But we cannot promise that it suits your purpose, that it is free of errors, or that any receiver works on your computer. That is what the free version is for, before you buy. To the extent the law allows, Jotai Oy is not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of KaikuSDR, including anything that follows from what you receive, record or share with it. Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.
- The software. You may not sell, rent or share your licence, or remove or work around the licence check. The open-source libraries inside KaikuSDR keep their own licences, listed below. Where one of them (LGPL) gives you the right to replace that library, nothing here takes it away.
Privacy
- The app has no account, sends no statistics, and makes no network connection of its own. There are three exceptions, each started by you: looking for updates, downloading a speech-to-text model when you choose one, and sending a problem report.
- With a licence in use, the app also fetches our public list of refunded licences about once a week, so that a refunded licence stops working. The request is the same for every copy and carries nothing about you, not even the licence. The free version never makes it.
- Your data, that is your channels, settings, activity log and recordings, stays on your computer.
- A problem report is written to your computer when the app ends with an error, when a receiver stops, when the page breaks, or when you press Report a problem. It is sent only when you press Send, after you have seen the whole text. It carries the error, your receivers' models and settings, and the app's own log. Never your name, your channels, your recordings or what was heard. It is kept on your computer whether you send it or not.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The server keeps the ordinary access log of a web host for a short time.
- Buying goes through our payment provider. It handles your payment details and your receipt under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, your email address and the transaction, which we need to issue your licence. Your licence carries your name and email, so that it is yours.
- Email you send to support is kept for as long as it takes to help you.
